The Internet: A Christian's Tool- guides and resources- all free- for Christian business and Christian ministry, families
The internet is now an integral part of our society, the same as having a home address or a bank account. It's importance and functions have changed dramatically in the last decade, and with changing technology, it can be hard to stay current and informed. Christians businesses and Christian ministries need to know about the benefits of a web presence, and Christian families to be cautioned against rampant scams and traps on the internet that can hurt the family unit.
Here you will find a broad understanding of the tools on the internet, safety tips for your children and your marriage, and a quick and easy way to start your own website for your business or ministry (for as little as $3 a year and $7 a month!).
I remember just ten years ago, while teaching public high school, a student refused to use the computers for internet research, saying it was against her religion. She talked of how her pastor proclaimed the evils of the internet and her family decided to have no part in it. She had decided to refuse an email account, and to do her research in the physical library. I respected her stance, being a Christian myself, and wondered what the internet would really become over time.
Now, mainstream society depends on it. Students are issued email accounts in many cases (without a choice), and the internet is a main source of library research and correspondence between professor and student. Are there groups that choose to avoid the internet altogether? Sure, and they make sacrifices to live in this manner, following their conscience as God leads. But, for the majority of Christians, and for those who want their children to hold a future career in mainstream society, the internet must be adopted as a part of life.
When the television first arrived on society, many Christians preached of its evils, much like the internet. Were they right? Yes, they were right about what it can do to a Christian. Just like the television, the internet can be an opening for inappropriate material. However, just like television, it can also be used for good. There are many ministries on tv that have led millions to Christ (and many who have offended Christians with their "give money now and you will get rich quick" approach). The internet is an even greater resource, allowing for ministry to millions around the globe (almost free too!).
So, how can Christians use the internet as a valuable tool, rather than an evil influence? See the internet: best & worst for highlights.
